Griffin-Spalding County Schools needed female leaders from our community to read Tuesday, October 24. Wanted to have students from Kindergarten to 5th grade have a book read to them.
Each member of the Griffin Daybreak Rotary Club sold a minimum of 15 Fraisier Fir Wreaths as our club's annual fundraiser. All funds will be used in local community service projects.
Partner with local bank and Rotary Club of Griffin to promote supply drive for coat, blankets and gloves for local Rushton's Hope, a nonprofit that helps serve community's underserved citizens.
Rotary, other civic clubs and community leaders partner to welcome students in K-12.Ten members in our club divided into groups and combined with other civic clubs and community leaders to partner and welcome students in the Griffin-Spalding County Schools for the first day of classes, August 1, 2023. Rotarians encouraged parents dropping off students in the carpool line, assisted opening doors and helping school staff navigate crowd on first day of classes. Griffin-Spalding County Schools Communications and Partnership Director requested club's assistance. The project was established to build good will with Rotary, other community leaders and the school system. The volunteers were able to create a positive and encouraging environment on what can easily be a stress-filled morning. The project was an attempt to increase a positive environment and prioritize mental health initiative with community leaders greeting bus riders and car riders with a welcome and show of support. It was determined at the end of the visit to continue the effort next year.
Partner with Kiwanis of Griffin to assist with gate operations for the annual county fair. Rotary International has emphasized partnering in community service projects and the Kiwanis Fair served as a perfect opportunity for us to meet and greet people of all ages while engaging our membership to assist their efforts. Rotarians were asked to help volunteer to serve shifts at the entrance gate as many of the Kiwanis members were serving throughout the fairgrounds. The proceeds from the fair benefit local high school seniors with college scholarships and area shelters in need of food or supplies. We communicated with Kiwanis Club that our Rotary Club desired to partner on this community effort. The Spalding County Kiwanis Fair is an annual project that is organized by the Kiwanis Club. The benefits of the fundraiser will be the scholarships and the food/supplies that are shared with area shelters. Griffin Daybreak Rotary plans to continue to partner and assist in this fundraising effort next fall.

Partner with Rotary Club of Atlanta Southern Crescent with $5,000 Competitive Grant to meet with Superintendents, Principals and Counselors for the Clayton, Henry and Spalding County school systems so that we can give them the material and make a short presentation of the overall program and that Rotary International is financing. Specific RI signs have to be made for each County and material must be approved for distribution within schools.
A press release was sent to the local newspaper. The Rotary Club of Griffin Daybreak inducted and installed the club's 2023-2024 President at a weekly July club meeting. To show longevity and promote the history of our club leadership, a list of past presidents was on table. Past District Governor George Granade hands the gavel to the Rotary Club of Griffin Daybreak Past Presidents including Kelly Smith, Bob Hagan, Jim Squire, Janet Wilkerson and Seetal Patel then Immediate Past-President Conner West who handed it off to President Katheryne Fields.
The Griffin Daybreak Rotary Club Members purchased Chick-fil-A sandwiches and drink coupons for distribution to the City of Griffin area healthcare worker and first responders for the continued high quality work for the citizens of Griffin. Total meals Were presented.
In Keeping with the Theme, “Create Hope In The World”, and removing the stigma regarding Mental Illness and addiction; DG André requested no gifts during her official visit.She humbly requested that a donation be made in her honor to The Heritage Foundation, Inc” Maya’s House”, a residential program in Thomasville for women with addiction and their Children.
Griffin Daybreak also presented essential hygiene items that were collected from members from August to September as a donation to Midway Recovery Center. Midway Recovery Center is a private, non-profit organization in Griffin which offers a 90-day intensive residential recovery program providing professional care to treat alcohol and drug addiction for males 21 and older.Public Relations Coordinator for Midway Recovery Systems served as a speaker and presented a club program in early August regarding the center's residential recovery program. After her visit, Griffin Daybreak voted to collect items in support of the efforts. The coordinator came to pick up the contributions and said the project would help the recovery center financially and it would allow additional supplies to be offered to the residents that are not typically in the program's budget. She said that a person's self-esteem can be improved when basic hygiene supplies are provided for their self-care and overall well-being/mental health.The coordinator said the supplies will help stretch their existing inventory and save them from purchasing some items, which was a budget savings. Supplies were donated in August and September with contributions to the organization both months.
Club members met for lunch at local Slices Pizzeria and 10% of the proceeds went to our club's Polio Plus fundraiser
Volunteered for the week at Kroger to ring bell for Salvation Army. Partner with the Rotary Club of Griffin as well as area business leaders and other volunteers to provide the block of days from Black Friday until Dec. 22, 2023.
A collaboration between the Griffin Daybreak and Griffin Rotary Clubs to modernize damage assessment collection and reporting capabilities within the Spalding County Emergency Management Agency (SC-EMA). Current community disaster damage assessment data collection in accomplished on standardized forms. Ipads and Laptop computers will revolutionize damage assessment data collection and reporting to local, state and federal disaster agencies. 5 iPads, 5 IPad cases, 1 laptops, 1 Flat Screen monitor and monitor Roll-around stand were purchased for the SCEMA to collect, evaluate, review and disseminate information to state and federal agencies during local natural or manmade disasters.Equipment purchased with this grant will also be utilized for disaster training of Spalding County Emergency Management personnel, Community Emergency Reaction Teams (CERT) and other public safety personnel. Equipment purchased with this grant will allow Spalding County Emergency Management personnel to and reporting.
