Rotary, other civic clubs and community leaders partner to welcome students in K-12.Ten members in our club divided into groups and combined with other civic clubs and community leaders to partner and welcome students in the Griffin-Spalding County Schools for the first day of classes, August 1, 2023. Rotarians encouraged parents dropping off students in the carpool line, assisted opening doors and helping school staff navigate crowd on first day of classes. Griffin-Spalding County Schools Communications and Partnership Director requested club's assistance. The project was established to build good will with Rotary, other community leaders and the school system. The volunteers were able to create a positive and encouraging environment on what can easily be a stress-filled morning. The project was an attempt to increase a positive environment and prioritize mental health initiative with community leaders greeting bus riders and car riders with a welcome and show of support. It was determined at the end of the visit to continue the effort next year.
